Secret and Hidden Wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:18-31)

Part of the Life in the Word Series series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

When you come to know the Lord and seek him, He lovingly imparts a secret and hidden wisdom to you. It is wisdom given through the revelation of what Jesus did upon cross.
Here are three secrets:

1. Righteousness – God says it is so.
* God declares you are in right standing with him through Christ.
* None is righteous no, not one – Romans 3:10
* For our sake he made him to be sin who knew not sin, so that in
him we might become the righteousness of God. 1 Cor 5:21
* John 8:1-11 – Woman caught in adultery; Sins forgiven Matt. 9:2-8

2. Sanctification – God helps you change inside.
* Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. John 17:17
* to separate from profane things and be dedicated to God
* to purify internally by renewing the soul
* Examples: David, Peter
* What shall we say then? Are we to continue is sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin live in it? Rom. 6:1-2

3. Redemption – God paid for it.
* in him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. Eph. 1:7
* a releasing effected by payment of ransom
* Luke 23:30-43
