We Are a Prophetic Community #3 We Prophesy Forgiveness and Blessing (1 Timothy 1:15)

Part of the Prophetic Community series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

We sin because we are sinners.
The meaning of “sin” in the Hebrew worldview is the loss or injury of relationship. Simply put, sin is the condition of having a broken relationship with God. It’s separation from God, which yields brokenness.

“Bad behavior” or sinful actions, are merely the symptoms of the brokenness that results from our broken relationship with God.

Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. In doing so, they created a separation between them and God.

They set their hearts on something other than God to be their source of knowledge, wisdom, protection, and provision. In doing so, they felt shame, they were afraid, they hid and covered themselves.

Rather than trusting God’s love to protect and provide for them, they began looking for ways to protect themselves and restore what they had lost.

They began blaming each other (and even God), and acting in self-preservation. When we are separated from God, we have a tendency to look after our own interests.

This separation from God, which results in self-sufficiency and self-centeredness, is the essence of sin.

Mark 7:20-23 - What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.

Colossians 1:21-22 - And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him….

Reconcile = to bring back to a former state of harmony

Jesus ministered forgiveness throughout his ministry and he put more attention of restored relationship.

The Woman caught in adultery – John 8:3-11
He who is without sin cast the first stone.
Where are your accusers now?
