Feed on the Bread of Life (John 6:35-69)

THE MULTITUDE COULD NOT HANDLE THIS RADICAL CALL TO FEED ON JESUS THE BREAD OF LIFE.

John 6:66-69 - After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?”68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”

Biblical discipleship is about drilling deep until you hit the bedrock.

NOW NOTICE THAT WHEN JESUS WAS IN THE VERY ACT OF DYING ON THE CROSS, PETER WAS IN THE VERY ACT OF DENYING THAT HE EVEN KNEW JESUS.

Matthew 26:69-75 - Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came up to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you mean.”

71 And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” 72And again, he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man.”

73After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you too are one of them, for your accent betrays you.” 74Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.”

75And immediately the rooster crowed. And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

The unique temptations of a Christian are revealed in five ways: Fear, ego, pride, greed, and moral compromise.

Luke 22:31-32 - “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”
