Abiding in the Vine (John 15:4-7)
Roger Thrower, November 8, 2020Part of the Spiritual Growth series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Abide – remain, continue to be present, to be held, kept continually, dwell, endure, to stay in a given place
The branch produces nothing from itself, but only what flows through it from the vine. Jesus models our relationship with him after his relationship with Father God.
NOW LET’S LOOK AGAIN
John 15:7 - If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
my words abide in you
Words – rhema – that which is or has been uttered by the living voice; any sound produced by the voice and having definite meaning, a saying of any sort as a message
Here is a paraphrase by Ed Silvoso:
If you abide in me and my words [the ones that I am speaking to you] abide in you, you will know how to pray, and now you ask and whatever you wish, it will be done for you.
So, how do you hear the words the Holy Spirit is speaking to you? Don’t rush.
