Blessed Is He Who Comes in the Name of the Lord (Matthew 21:1-11)

Part of the Palm Sunday series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

Revelation 22:16b - I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.

2 Samuel 7:12-13 - When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

1 Kings 1:38-40 - So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David's mule and brought him to Gihon.
39 There Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the tent and anointed Solomon. Then they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, “Long live King Solomon!”
40 And all the people went up after him, playing on pipes, and rejoicing with great joy, so that the earth was split by their noise.

Luke 11:31 - The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.

For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
First, this means that Jesus did not come to represent himself. Jesus came to represent another. Jesus came to represent Father God.
Second, Jesus, the person, is the summation of all of the attributes of Almighty God in human form. The fullness of all of the wonderful names of God find their expression in Him.

Phil. 2:9-10 - God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Salvation comes in his name.
Romans 10:9-If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Acts 4:12 - And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

Luke 10:17 - The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”

Mark 9:41 - For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.

Colossians 3:17 - And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

JESUS is from the Hebrew word YESHUA, which is our word Joshua, which means God saves.
CHRIST means THE ANOINTED ONE. CHRIST is more a title than a name.

Genesis 16:13 - So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”

Judges 6:22-24 - Then Gideon perceived that he was the angel of the Lord. And Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord God! For now I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face.”
23 But the Lord said to him, “Peace be to you. Do not fear; you shall not die.” 24 Then Gideon built an altar there to the Lord and called it, The Lord Is Peace….
