Love Conquers the Idols of Success (1 John 1:43-51)
Roger Thrower, March 1, 2020Part of the A Look At Suffering Series series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
What makes people what they are is the order of their loves - the heart even has a pecking order of what is loved the most, what is loved more, what is loved less, and what is loved least.
People do not change by merely changing their thinking, but by changing what they love the most.
A true Christian is one who finds Christ excellent and beautiful for who he is in himself.
Idolatry is not just a failure to obey God, it is a setting of the whole heart on something besides God.
Jesus must become more beautiful to your imagination, more attractive to your heart, than your idol. If you uproot the idol and fail to “plant” the love of Christ in its place, the idol will grow back.
