Why Do We Tithe? (James 1:16-18)
Nic Heywood, September 8, 2019Part of the Kingdom Discipleship Series series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Because that action tells our brains that we believe these truths:
1. There is one who is greater than me (I am unable to handle having all things - but HE is able)
2. The responsibility for my well-being is on HIS shoulders (not mine).
3. Not all that I have is for ME (we are made to live a life of sharing the blessing)!
Conclusion
If you have to BRING 10% back to God... it forces your brain how to make due with the rest. If you have to GIVE portions to the poor and needy... it forces your brain to learn how to save and portion things out... if you have to take breaks from earning and spending... it forces your brain to learn how to manage wealth. These things keep the heart light, it keeps us from gluttony and hoarding... it makes us generous and prosperous in our SOULS.
