Press On (Philippians 3:14)

Roger Thrower, September 27, 2015
Part of the Rising to the Challenge series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

To press on in Christ we must:

1. Cultivate the inner qualities of the heart.
* For the Lord see not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7b
* David worshiped God with his harp and protected the sheep with his sling. (Your private pain is prerequisite to your public purpose.)

2. Cultivate your God-empowered capacity.
* Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon from that day forward. 1 Samuel 16:13 (1 Samuel 17:32ff)
* David conquered Goliath. Jesus conquered death. What intimidates you?

3. Model your God-formed life.
* And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him. I Samuel 22:2
* 2 Samuel 23:8-39 – David’s mighty men ( What God works in you is meant to be invested in others.)
