What Hinders God's Love from flowing through us? (John 13:34)

Part of the Unshockable Love Series series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

We underestimate the true condition of our hearts.
For God’s love to flow through us we must surrender:

1. A Deceived Heart.
* Jeremiah 17:9 – The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
Matthew 15:18-20 – But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. 20 These are what defile a person.
* Colossians 3:14 - And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

2. A Distracted Heart.
* 1 John 2: 15- 17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and the pride of life – is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
* 2 Timothy 4:10 p For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me…
* Luke 10:38-42 (Martha was distracted)
*1 John 5:21 – Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

3. A Damaged Heart
* Genesis 3:10 – And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”
* 1 John 4:18 – There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
