Work It (Philippians 2:12-18)

Part of the Going All In series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Jesus is your example and the devil wants your heart. How do we reconcile these two realities?

1. Work it out: Live in and through Jesus Christ.
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
* Christ's work of atonement is finished: work from the cross: carry out the great work of sanctification by the help of the Holy Spirit. Your own: it is each man's own work.
WHERE ARE YOU HEADED?

2. Work it off: Defeat the inner reasonings of disappointment.
14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
* Disappointment - The sadness experienced when people or circumstances do not fulfill expectations.
* Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12
WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND?

3. Work it in: Study and meditate on God’s Word.
16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.
* Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path
Ps. 119:105.
*If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you”
- John 15:7.
