Evaluating God's Love in Our Lives (1 John 4:7-21)

Roger Thrower, December 28, 2014
Part of the Spiritual Maturity series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

1. Do you love God and people more at the end of this year?
* God is well pleased when all our actions proceed from love, love to Himself, and love to immortal souls.
George Whitefield 18th Century
* To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek Him the greatest adventure; to find Him, the greatest human achievement. Augustine 5th Century
* Affection is responsible for nine-tenths of whatever solid and durable happiness there is in our lives.
C.S. Lewis 20th Century

2. What obstacles hinder you from loving God and people more?
* And others are the one sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, 19 but cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. Mark 4:18-19
* But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those of them whom you let remain shall be as barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall trouble you in the land where you dwell. Numbers 33:55

3. What is your plan to love God and people more this next year?
* Parable of the talents – Matthew 25 – the one talent man missed God’s heart and did nothing.
* In doing no wrong, he did the biggest wrong of all by not taking initiative, not taking part in what the Master was doing.
