Responding to Jesus with a Humble Heart (Matthew 1:18-2:23)

Roger Thrower, December 14, 2014
Part of the Christmas Series series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

A mega theme of the Biblical account of Jesus birth is humility. Without humility in the primary people involved, it doesn’t work. God relies on the humble heart to accomplish his purposes.

A humble heart:

1. Receives correction.
* Matthew 1:18-25
*He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. Psalm 25:9
How well do you receive correction?

2. Receives grace.
* Matthew 2:1-15
* God’s protection, provision, direction, and empowerment
* God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. James 4:6b
* When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. Proverbs 11:2
Are you humble or proud?

3. Receives honor.
* The fear of the LORD is instruction in wisdom and humility comes before honor. Proverbs 15:33
* One’s pride will bring him low, but he how is lowly in spirit will obtain honor. Proverbs 29:23
Do you have an honorable name?
