Jesus Christ Is Preeminent (Hebrews 1:1-4)

Roger Thrower, March 13, 2016
Part of the Who Is This Jesus? series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Jesus is Preeminent because:
1. He was precisely pre-announced.
* If God sent anyone from Himself, or if He came Himself with a vitally important message for all men, it would seem reasonable that He would first let men know when His messenger was coming, where He would be born, where He would live, the doctrine He would teach, the enemies He would make, the program He would adopt for the future, and the manner of His death. By the extent to which the messenger conformed with these announcements, one could judge the validity of his claims.
* Many OT prophecies and pictures predict the facts of his coming.

2. Of His Predominant Purpose - death.
*Matthew 16:13-28 – (Jesus gave his life at 33 years old.)
* He presented Himself as a Savior rather than merely as a Teacher. It meant nothing to teach men to be good unless He also gave them the power to be good, after rescuing them from the frustration of guilt.

3. Of His Pristine Personality – grace and truth.
* For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell.
* And the Word became flesh an dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

Is Jesus Preeminent in your life? Does he reign supreme in your life?
Believers who have made Jesus preeminent in their lives draw upon His life-giving grace and recognize the daily repentance that private prayers must include, confess to others the divine aid that grants them the strength of their resolutions, obey God in loving thankfulness for the forgiveness and future Christ supplies, model the humility appropriate for a fellow sinner, express the courage and authority of one confident of the Savior’s provision, exude the joy of salvation by faith alone, reflect the love that claims their souls, and perform their service without any claim of personal merit.
