Every Soul Needs the Great Shepherd (Luke 2:8-20)

Roger Thrower, December 13, 2015
Part of the Advent Season series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Luke 2:8 (ESV) -And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

The Word of God teaches us about:

1. The ruination of a shepherd-less soul.
* All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned – every on- to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6 (In what area of your life have you gone astray?)
* But when He (Jesus) saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Matthew 9:36 (Is there a circumstance in your life that has robbed your strength and worn you out?)
* So they were scattered, because there was not shepherd, and they became food for all the wild beasts. Ezekiel 34:5 (Do you feel your life being chewed up? No matter how hard you work to get ahead it just gets eaten up?)
* Every answer to every problem is found in the presence of God. Why is that? Because the answer to every prayer is more of Him in your life, more of the Holy Spirit, more of God’s loving presence, more of his empowering grace…

2. The completion of a well shepherded soul.
* Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21
* Psalm 23
